WATER TO SAVE LIVES IN LA GUAJIRA – PHASE 3
Provide water suitable for human consumption to the indigenous community of La Guajira through the construction of 8 wells.
In Guajira Colombia, around 300,000 Wayuu indigenous people live in ranches in an area of 15,300 kilometers. The current wells were built more than 60 years ago and are inoperative due to lack of maintenance, which has caused that the natural resource and fundamental source of life such as WATER does not reach these communities, causing the death of more than 7000 indigenous and more than 5000 children due to malnutrition and lack of this resource.
Around 50 families benefit from each well, each family has around 6 members, of which 4 are children, with the construction of 8 wells around 2,400 people would benefit.
